Quality European tonewoods
The Wessex Violin Company expertly select their materials. It's a key priority since the wood is the foundation for a violin's acoustics. Luthiers prefer the sound quality of Balkan Maple and this is what makes up the two-piece backs of the V series of violins. Each bit of Maple is expertly selected and matured for over ten years to produce the best results. Then comes the matching. The company do not pair just any combination but make sure they work well together. The Bavarian Spruce to go with the Maple is also of high quality, being graded and hand-selected. Once carved, the woods are left to settle for at least twelve months, so they are hardened and refined by the gradual warming of the English summer. This slow pace of work is a rare level of patience which allows the wood to reach its full potential.
Honey-coloured finish
The Wessex violins glow in their honey-coloured shade. This tone shines through even beneath the varnish as the 12-month ageing process allows the wood to take on this distinctive colour. Traditional techniques dating back 300 years in the English school of violin-making are the basis for the company's oil varnishing. It is built up in layers to bring out a rich colour. The varnish is a warm, chestnut brown over the gold base, combining to create the optimal richness. Play a violin that dazzles.
Professional setup and configuration
After putting this much time and care into their wood, The Wessex Violin Company make sure to configure and setup their instruments to the same high standard. On this V series violin, the fittings are made from the finest European Boxwood, shaped in the English pattern. For a fast playing-quality, the fingerboard is made from West African Ebony. The smooth texture of Ebony is the classic choice under your fingers. The tight grain is durable, which is important as the part of your instrument which will be touched the most. The Wessex Violin Company source their bridges from an experienced, quality-focused company like their own. The V violin's Despiau bridge is a high-grade piece made by a French family business, who recognised that the perfect bridge shape could help the violin-maker enhance an instrument's acoustics. This makes a quality addition to this refined violin. These sophisticated components are strung, tested, and adjusted by experienced luthiers. Your violin is ready to play right away, at an exceptional quality.
Larsen Virtuoso strings
High standard strings bring even greater quality to this strong sound. When designing and developing this series, the aim was to set a new standard of strings for the violin. Using an innovative synthetic core with only moderate tension, the string is capable of producing a richly nuanced sound with remarkable projection to give this robust violin an even more full-bodied strength in performance. Larsen has produced a consistently reliable string with fantastic playability and great string response.
