Key Features
The Oktava MKL-2500 Tube Microphone combines the capsule design Oktava have become well known for, with the warm characteristics of a tube microphone. The MKL-2500 is capable of performing in a range of recording scenarios, thanks to the wide frequency response ranging from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. When recording digitally, the MKL-2500 and power supply design adds authentic analog warmth to the signal chain.

Detailed recordings are achieved with the MKL-2500, whilst retaining extremely low self-noise. This ensures that the MKL-2500 can be used for quiet sources that require high amounts of gain to record. At the opposite end of the spectrum, a maximum SPL of 135dB allows the MKL-2500 to be used on loud sources, such as drum applications or close micing guitar amps. The tube and power supply have been designed to deliberately add a measure of third-harmonic distortion. This adds character to sound sources, producing an authentic analog sound, heard on countless popular recordings.
A frequency response ranging from 20 Hz to 20 kHz ensures most sound sources can benefit from the unique character of the MKL-2500. By accepting frequencies up to 20 kHz, the MKL-2500 is capable of capturing a beautiful ‘air’ sound that can elevate a recording.
Vocal applications prove particularly fruitful with the MKL-2500. This is thanks, in part, to the gold-sputtered 33 mm diaphragm, adding extra midrange clarity. This can help fill out a vocal take, allowing it to sit perfectly on top of a backing track.
Relaxed music styles that focus around acoustic instruments such as guitar and piano can really benefit from the warmth provided by the MKL-2500. The emphasised presence combines seamlessly with detailed accuracy of every note, ensuring the emotion of the performance is captured.
