Yamaha Pianos are seen all over the world. They make electric pianos, uprights and grand pianos. At the top of Yamaha's grand piano range sits the CFX. Beginning development in 1991 the Yamaha CFX Concert Grand debuted in 2010 after nearly 20 years of testing and design. Each part of the traditional piano construction was examined and improved upon. Once the design was nearing completion the piano was secretly tested for thousands of hours all over the world.
Each CFX is hand-built by a small team of experienced and skilled craftsmen. All the materials used in construction are selected for their tonal and structural performance. The piano is extraordinarily expressive and can create truly compelling musical performances. The tonal presence of this instrument is unmatched, ensuring this piano will be clearly heard even over the largest symphony orchestras.
The engineers at Abbey Road have a huge collection of microphones to choose from. Their knowledge and expertise have been used to provide the ultimate range of mic perspectives and recording styles. There are three styles of recording included in this library, each with its own microphones and perspectives from the piano.
The first style is classic, which most faithfully captures the tonal style of the piano. The second is contemporary, this is a bright and hard sound which captures the attack of the hammers, however, the natural warmth and ambience of the piano is still captured. The final recording style is player, these aim to capture the sound from the perspective of the player. This is particularly effective when you're wearing headphones.
In addition, each style has different mic positions. These are outlined below:
