Employing all of the parameters you'll find on the original, Arturia VCA-65 includes the fabled Auto Attack/Release control and simple peak stop limiter. Both of these parameters can be used in tandem to create the signature punchy and thick compression tone it's renowned for, all while maintaining a natural sound even at extreme settings.

Whether you're looking to squash a drum room microphone for huge sustain, tame poorly performed bass guitar by slamming the dynamics for a consistent sound or help sparkling clean electric guitars jump out of a mix, VCA-65 can get you there.
A chameleonic compressor, VCA is capable of being both extremely transparent or crunchy and distorted. This versatility makes it an ideal candidate for both individual instrument processing and mix bus dynamics taming. Setting your attack and release parameters to Auto dynamically adjusts the compressor's settings to best fit with the tempo and feel of your song. Combine this with an extremely versatile compression ratio dial from 1:1 to infinite:1 and the peak stop limiter level and you have a very capable mastering compressor.
Expanding the functionality of the compressor into the modern era, Arturia has added an advanced side-chain feature to VCA-65. The onboard side-chain control features an integrated SSL-style EQ with high and low filters and band EQ to alter the response of your compression based on the sonic quality of incoming audio. In addition, VCA-65 includes seven stereo detection modes including mid/side, sides only, mids only, linked and dual left/right. Of course, a side-chain wouldn't be complete without a listen function to hear the effect of your incoming audio in isolation.
Ideal for modern producers working with electronic genres or mixes with lots of layers fighting for frequency space in a mix, side-chaining can leave room for instruments to breathe without clashing. You can use it to pump an 808 underneath a kick drum for consistent low-end that's not overwhelming or you can use it to duck synthesizers or guitars out the way for lead vocals in the midrange. It could even be used as a customisable de-esser for removing sibilance!
