A one of a kind reverb
You won't find this reverb as a hardware unit stuffed in the racks of classic studios. Instead, Rev INTENSITY was designed to be an original, highly-creative reverb which will change the way you approach effects in your mix. Although inspired by some classic sounds you've heard on huge records, it takes a different approach and goes above and beyond the traditional parameters you'll find on a reverb unit.
Having spent years analyzing and recreating the best audio equipment available, Arturia has taken all of their expertise in the realm of sound design and matched it with a highly-advanced plug-in. Combining the best of all pieces into one immaculate and creative reverb, INTENSITY is true product of innovation.
Free from any real-world restrictions, Arturia employed their celebrated Phi technology to bring the sonic characteristics of this reverb to life. Using cutting-edge algorithmic techniques and combining it with unimpeded parameter control, an exciting feature set was injected into Rev INTENSITY. If you're ready to experiment with your reverb, traversing new sonic landscapes, INTENSITY is for you. Pre and post-filtering, integrated chorusing, complex modulation with envelope followers and function generator, soft-clipping, freeze controls and more are employed in an intuitive plug-in which lets you sound your best, regardless of application.
Take any sound into outer space
With virtually no limits placed on the application of Rev INTENSITY to your productions, it's up to your imagination and creativity to find new and interesting ways to add depth and movement in your reverb. Traditionally, producers and mixing engineers would flock to tried and true reverb types for specific functions. Pop vocals? Plate. Electric guitar? Spring. Rev INTENSITY looks to rewrite the rulebook and let you explore different ways of achieving unique reverb spaces in your mix. You might just find something you would have never tried otherwise!
The inclusion of so many modulation sources let your creativity run wild. Try experimenting with modulating parameters with external side-chain sources with the Envelope Follower or internally modulate parameters with the Function Generator. Or best of all, why not both simultaneously?
The first cool trick to describe is the gated reverb effect. Popularized in te '80s with drum sounds by artists such as Phil Collins and Prince, you can achieve the same punchy drum tones with INTENSITY. The wet signal adds much more than a simple reverb sounds, it adds groove to your drum pattern. To achieve this effect, we can use the advanced panel post-filter and envelope follower. Set the REV LEVEL to minimum and use this as your modulation destination with the envelope follower and set the modulation to maximum. To fine-tune the sound, you can adjust the compressor settings and modulate the post-filter high-pass filter with the function generator set to a step sequencer shape. Now your drums will sound completely different, adding unique movement to your drum sequences.
Another unique reverb sound you can unlock with INTENSITY is a tremolo-like sound found on electric pianos. First, you need to set the REV level to 50 percent and modulate this with the function generator using a random waveshape to create the stepped feeling of the final sound. Instantly recognisable sound but INTENSITY lets you take it further, modulating the Function Rate, forcing the parameter to constantly changing its rate, causing the reverb to be highly dynamic and less static.
The creative algorithmic reverb
Not following on from traditional reverbs, you might be looking for the obvious parameters inside of INTENSITY, but not all of them are present. The main window includes the more common parameters you will find, including the pre-delay, virtual distance, size, damping, stereo width but also includes the feedback control, modultion and soft-clip circuits. The feedback control is directly linked to the decay, damping and size parameters, letting you go wild with near infinite sustain. You could do this with the freeze switch, momentarily latching a sound indefinitely until de-pressed. The choice is yours.
Opening the advanced panel is where the additional goodies can be found. Pre and post-filters are included, with nine different pre-filters to choose from spanning band-pass, high-pass and low-pass filters. The post-filter is an SEM-inspired filter type with four modes, resonance and frequency knobs to control the output signal.
Perfect for sound designers, an envelope follower is included and creates an envelope based on the waveform of the input signal or external signal and can be used as a modulation source. You can set it to four different destinations simultaneously. It comes wth four controls, a built-in compression threshold, envelope follower output gain, attack plus release times of the envelope follower and a delay to delay the input signal in the envelope follower.
Lastly, a function generator is included which you may know from the V-collection of from Pigments instruments. It serves as another modulation source and lets you create different periodic shapes which can be sent to various parameters. You can modulate four different sources at once and decide on the rate as either Hertz or time division.
Reviews
"The beauty of this is that if you are using the extra features, there are some amazing things that you can do. It sounds great." - Riccardo Damian (Producer - Lady Gaga, Adele, Miley Cyrus)
"I really like the ridiculousness of Rev Intensity - I think it's really useful not as a conventional room or hall sound, but it can become rhythmical, tonal and it's even got melodic elements to it" - Mark Bowen (IDLES)
