Sampling Engine
The Augmented WOODWINDS plugin features a meticulously recorded sample library, capturing the nuanced and expressive quality of a live woodwind ensemble right in your own studio. Eleven musicians, both in solo and ensemble settings, contributed to this collection, offering 56 distinct articulations across a variety of wind instruments, along with uniquely processed sounds for innovative and avant-garde effects. These samples were recorded using top-tier microphones and preamps, ensuring each sound is delivered with exceptional clarity and dynamism. Whether you're looking for a singular wind instrument tone, a rich vibrato sustain, or something uniquely in-between, this library provides a wide range of options.
Control Features
Morph: Augmented WOODWINDS introduces a central Morph control that allows you to fluidly transition between natural and synthetic sounds, weave intricate layers of soundscapes, and simultaneously adjust up to eight parameters with a single action. This feature opens up a new realm of sound possibilities, combining realism with imaginative abstraction in one preset.
Colour, Time, Motion: The plugin's macros facilitate rapid and expressive adjustments, enabling you to effortlessly manipulate multiple parameters at once. Whether you're looking to inject dynamism or refine the sonic color, these controls provide intuitive command over your sound.
FX, Delay, Reverb: Tailor the concluding elements of your sound with Augmented WOODWINDS' comprehensive effects section. Customize your sound with unique FX slots or add depth and space with the specialized Delay and Reverb master effects. These controls are designed for simplicity, allowing for quick experimentation and the ability to achieve the desired ambiance or radically transform sounds with ease.
Synthesis Engine
Explore a vast sonic landscape with Augmented WOODWINDS' four synthesis engines: Virtual Analog, Granular, Wavetable, and Harmonic, complemented by the Simpler engine. Drawing on more than two decades of synthesis expertise, including the development of Pigments and the V Collection, this feature goes beyond a mere collection of presets. It offers comprehensive instruments within the plugin itself, designed to be interactive and expressive. From creating emotional scores akin to those by Hans Zimmer to generating ethereal, detuned ambiances and pads rich in harmonic textures, these engines provide the tools to craft a broad spectrum of sounds.
Advanced Customization
The Arturia Augmented Woodwinds plugin offers a rich palette for crafting unique, signature sounds through its advanced customization features. The plugin's sophisticated interface and diverse preset library provide immediate satisfaction for quick needs, but the real magic unfolds within the advanced panel. This feature allows for in-depth manipulation of the hybrid ensemble, enabling users to rearrange, modulate, and introduce arpeggiation to their creations.
Dive into the essence of Augmented WOODWINDS by fine-tuning the dual engines of each layer, which include a mix of up to two sampling engines and two synthesis engines. This grants access to four distinct sound sources, offering the freedom to blend and morph between sampled and synthesized sounds. Adjust filters, experiment with waveform combinations, or balance the mix of sampled microphones to sculpt your sound precisely. The plugin simplifies the modulation process with an intuitive click-and-drag system, allowing for the application of LFOs, functions, random generators, and keyboard controls to a wide array of parameters. Customize each modulation source to achieve the exact dynamics and expression you desire.
Enhance musical ideas into complex textures and patterns using the built-in 16-step arpeggiator. Each layer includes two FX slots for adding personal touches of distortion and sound processing, alongside dedicated Delay and Reverb effects for spatial and temporal refinement. This ensures each layer can be uniquely processed, enriching the overall sound.
Recording
The recording sessions were conducted under the guidance of experienced sound engineers and designers on a well-equipped orchestral scoring stage located in Eastern Europe. Utilizing top-quality Millennia microphone preamps and a diverse selection of microphones allowed for the blending of sounds to achieve a rich yet authentic auditory experience. The ensemble consisted of eleven musicians performing simultaneously, adopting a realistic scoring technique. The ensemble included a variety of woodwind instruments: two contra-bassoons, one bassoon, two bass clarinets, two clarinets, one oboe, and three flutes.
Additionally, solo recordings were made for four principal instruments: the bassoon, clarinet, English horn and flute. To broaden the instruments' playable ranges, recordings of the contra-bassoon, bass clarinet, bass flute, and piccolo were also captured. This meticulous approach ensures a detailed and authentic woodwind section is available for use in your digital audio workstation, offering ample opportunities for creative exploration.
Reviews
"The woodwind sounds are fantastic, and I love the way they can be morphed into interesting and complex sounds while still maintaining the spirit of the woodwind section. To me, it's the best of the Augmented series." - Leanna Primiani - Composer
"My musical landscape escapism has been the sounds of 70’s “dinosaur” progressive rock, mixed with electronic pop songwriting. Take Augmented Woodwinds and see where these sounds will take you and put a kick to it and we will have music and emotional for years to come." - Andreas Kleerup - Producer
