Known for its eclectic blend of reverb, pitch shift, tremolo, and drive effects, this pedal is a true workhorse on any pedalboard. The distortion effect that lives in the Holy Stain is compromised of four controls. These are Dirt, Colour, Tone and Volume. You'll notice that Dirt and Colour exist as rotary switches whilst Tone and Volume are potentiometers.
The Dirt control allows you to determine the type of distortion you'd like to introduce. Adjust this to switch between Clean, Fuzz and Drive. Drive is designed to provide you with the smoothest distortion, whilst Fuzz is perfect for heavier music thanks to its raw energy and aggression. Clean does exactly what it's meant to. However, it's important to note that due to the circuit there may still be a subtle amount of grit.
Tweak your distortion's tone by using the colour potentiometer. Colour adjusts the character of the distortion between three settings. These are bright, dark, and warm. Bright provides distortion across the entire frequency spectrum. This is ideal when you want a tone that's loud and proud. Dark compensates for the harmonics introduced by the pedal, providing a much smoother sound. Warm is the perfect blend of both settings.
The on-board reverb processor allow you to achieve incredible width and depth, straight out of the box. The main difference between the Room and Hall setting is the amount of pre-delay they introduce. When tweaking, you'll notice that Hall is longer compared to room. The "amount" knob allows you to achieve the ideal time and length of the reverb tail. There's no compromises here when it comes to achieving a great sound.
Pitch shift is also ideal for adding that "extra-dimension" to your tone . When engaging this mode, the pedal will simultaneously adjust the pitch of the note you pick up to a third, and down to a fourth . This effect is great to "beef" up your tone if you're a guitarist in a two-piece band.
