The 4ms Spectral Multiband Resonator is perfect for a range of applications, from basic filtering to providing marimba like tones by inputting clock or triggers. One of the most unique features of the 4ms SMR Module is that is treats frequencies like musical notes in a scale. On this principle, the six band in total, are grouped together to form a chord. It works by using the built-in control such as the Rotate knob, allowing the ‘Notes’ to circle around the scale. They will then rotate to the bottom of the ring once they hit the top. Another notable function is the Spread control that blends bands between each other for a smooth exchange and optimal performance value.
The most prominent feature of the module is the multi-coloured ring of light, which provides information on the frequency of each of the filters. It also displays the levels and scale selection of your frequency band, providing a handy visual tool for added convenience. Acting as a standard six-band graphic EQ, the Spectral Multiband Resonator gives you everything you need to work as a normal filter module. It includes six frequency band-pass filters, which can be blended and mixed together using the sliders. There is also a Resonance/Q variable control, allowing you to change the overall tonal characteristics of each band, from a minimal sound to a ringy, metallic-like tone.
A wide range of high-grade controls and parameters are included for getting the most out of each frequency band. Basing its design on the principle that each band is treated like a note in a scale, the module gives you the tools to adjust the spread and distance between the note changes. CV inputs are also included for sequencing applications, as well as providing versatile control for external modules. Another interesting and unique control is the Morph control, which allows you to automatically cross-fade between frequencies. The Morph control can also work together with the Slew control which can be used to allow rhythmic clock to drive the SMR, virtually acting as a speed evolving resonant filter.
The robust yet ergonomic layout of the module, providing a quick and easy workflow that allows you to make changes on the fly with ease. The integrated sliders provide a quick and easy way to change your frequency bands levels, with optimal precision. You can change the way the module reacts with the Resonance control, ranging from metallic, percussive-like sounds to ethereal and ambient tones. It also provides a range of scale banks for different scale tunings. There are also user-programmable scales, with each bank possessing 11 scales of 20 frequencies/notes each. The Eurorack format module also include two 1V/octave frequency jacks for tracking even and odd bands, accompanied by six storage banks which you can recall on the fly.
